Jerry Locati

AIA / Senior Partner

Founding partner, Jerry Locati, brings three decades of experience in designing high-end residential, commercial and resort architecture. His work has garnered many awards throughout his career and has regularly appeared in premiere lifestyle publications, including Architectural Digest. But his greatest reward remains a connection with each client to create livable designs that improve people’s lives.

“In essence, the clients are the real designer,” Jerry explains, “my role as an architect is to interpret their vision.”

A Montana native, Jerry grew up in a family of artists who fostered his passion for drawing. Realizing his love of art could transfer to the built environment, he pursued a career in architecture. Upon completion of his Masters of Architecture from Montana State University, Jerry served his internship while gaining experience and enhancing his professional skills. In 1989, Locati Architects was established and since then has maintained a firm grasp on the high-end residential market while continuing to expand into the commercial and resort areas.

The notion of living in art remains fundamental to Jerry’s approach in every design. He begins each project with a hand drawn sketch that reflects each client’s vision, tangibly connecting people to place by putting pen to paper.

The hallmark of Jerry’s design philosophy is connection. First connecting with clients on a personal level to understand their needs, their dream and their lifestyle. Next is connecting to the site, determining how the landscape will affect the orientation of the building, the pitch of a roof, the entry point and each person’s overall experience. The final connection in every successful project is a seamless flow between the environment, the building and the people who use it.

Each custom-designed home, commercial space or resort community acts as a gathering place. Whether it’s a professional building or a luxury home, architecture is intended to bring people together through livable design. Every building should enhance the personal experience of the landscape, adding detail and definition even to the natural world.

“Good design improves lives,” Jerry states simply.

When he is not at his drafting table, you’ll find Jerry outside, with friends and family reconnecting with the Montana outdoors or perfecting his handicap on the golf course. He also continues to hone his skill as a fine artist, working in graphite to create one-of-a-kind figurative works that reflect his love of wildlife and the human form.

“Architecture is the only form of art that we can inhabit—touch it, experience it, live in it—it influences every aspect of the way we live.”
