Steve Locati
AIA / Senior Partner
Since joining Locati Architects in 1991, Steve has worked in every aspect of the business. Today he connects directly with clients, offering a realistic and straight-forward approach to architectural design. Steve’s ability to offer honest communication, the willingness to listen to ideas from clients and contractors helps the Locati Architects team remain adaptable to projects throughout the country.
“Each design is a collaboration between the client, the architect, the builder and the interior designer and no two are ever the same. What sets Locati Architects apart is that we strive to create authentic designs that respond to our clients’ vision, the site and the budget.”
Raised in Montana as the youngest of six children, Steve grew up in an artistic family. That experience growing up in a large family, he says, has given him a design perspective that clients connect with as they envision their own multi-generational gathering places in the form of legacy homes and properties.
“One of the more enjoyable part of the process is in the early stages, when we interpret an abstract concept into a realistic design solution,” Steve says.
During his service in the U.S. Army, Steve served as a Graphic Support Specialist in military intelligence. After completing his military career, he attended Montana State University and earned a Masters of Architecture. Since then, he has been integral in developing Locati Architects’ Endowment at the School of Architecture at Montana State University, the largest to date at the college. He serves on the MSU School of Architecture Advisory Council and was selected by the university president as one of 15 university-wide MSU alumni for the inaugural college mentoring program. Steve continues to be involved with MSU, the School of Architecture and students.
When he’s away from the office, Steve is an avid outdoorsman. He’s finished the Leadville 100 ultra mountain bike race twice and enjoys all outdoor activities with his wife and three children. He is a dedicated basketball coach in the Montana youth travel basketball league and lives for all adventures that include his kids. “I am truly blessed to live and raise my family in the beauty of Montana,” he says.
“Every project is unique, every client offers new inspiration, so I approach each new relationship with an open mind allowing clients to chart the concept.”
